The cost for registering unaltered or fertile pets is higher than for registering spayed or neutered pets in order to promote sterilization and to reduce pet overpopulation.

Payment for your registration is due 30 days from the expiration of your current registration's expiration. If you are registering for the first time, you must purchase a registration within 30 days of obtaining a dog, cat or ferret over the age of 4 months or within 30 days of establishing residence in the City of Plano.
Any owner that applies for an annual registration thirty-one (31) or more days after the expiration date of their pet's previous registration shall be assessed a late fee of $10.00.
You may register by mail and pay for your registration with a check or money order made payable to "City of Plano."
You may register online and pay for your registration with a major credit card. A convenience fee will apply per transaction.
You may register in person at the Plano Animal Shelter. Please bring a copy of your pet's current rabies certificate and other applicable documentation.
- A current rabies vaccination certificate is required if the rabies vaccination on file has expired. Please check your certificate for correct address and pet information.
- Proof of spay/neuter, such as a signed statement from a veterinarian or an invoice for services, is required if the pet has been altered since the last registration period and you are applying for the lower spayed/neutered registration fee.
- Proof of age is required to receive the reduced-fee registration for senior citizens age 60 and over with a spayed or neutered pet.
- Proof of government assistance is required to receive the reduced-fee registration for low-income owners with a spayed or neutered pet.
- A training certificate, registration with a service animal organization or letter from a doctor is required to receive the reduced-fee spayed or neutered service animal registration.
Your paperwork will not be returned to you, so please retain a copy of your documents for your records.

You may register your pet in person at the Plano Animal Shelter at 4028 W Plano Parkway in Plano. Please bring your pet's current rabies vaccination certificate and other applicable documentation with you.
