You may license by mail and pay for your license with a check or money order made payable to “City of Chesapeake.”

You may license online and pay for your license with a major credit card. A convenience fee will apply per transaction. Multiple pets can be licensed in one transaction.

You may license in person at City of Chesapeake Treasurer’s Office locations, Parks and Recreation Visitor Center and participating veterinary clinics. Please bring a copy of your pet's current rabies certificate and proof of spay/neuter.

Required Paperwork
  1. A current rabies vaccination certificate is required if the rabies vaccination on file has expired. Please check your certificate for correct address and pet information.
  2. Proof of spay/neuter, such as a signed statement from a veterinarian or an invoice for services, is required if the pet has been altered since the last licensing period and you are applying for the lower spayed/neutered license fee.

Your paperwork will not be returned to you, so please retain a copy of your documents for your records.
