Licensing Ordinance

All dogs, cats and ferrets 4 months of age and older must be vaccinated against rabies and licensed with Jacksonville within 30 days of being in the city.

Instructions to License Online

A Jacksonville Pet License is available at all veterinary clinics in the City. If you do not plan to license your pet at your veterinary clinic and would like to license online, a convenience fee of $2.00 will apply for each transaction. Any required documents, such as your pet’s rabies vaccination certificate, may be scanned and uploaded or submitted later by email, mail or fax. The license will be issued after all required documents are received.

Please note that free licenses cannot be obtained through the online payment system. If you are a senior citizen (62+) or a disabled pet owner, please click here for other submission options. If you are a senior citizen licensing additional pets at the regular license fees, the online payment system may be used.

Required Paperwork

  1. A current rabies vaccination certificate is required if the rabies vaccination on file has expired. Please check your certificate for correct address and pet information.
  2. Proof of age is required to receive the discounted fees for senior citizens age 62 and over.
  3. A letter from the VA or Social Security Administration is required to receive the discounted fees for disabled owners.

Your paperwork will not be returned to you, so please retain a copy of your documents for your records.

Due Date

Payment for your license is due within 5 days of the expiration of your current license. If you are licensing for the first time, you must purchase a license within 30 days of obtaining a pet over the age of 4 months or within 30 days of moving into Jacksonville.

A late fee is added to the license fee if your license is not purchased by the due date. The late fee is $25.
