Why am I being billed when I have a current registration?
There may be several reasons why you received a bill when you have a current registration. We're happy to help with your account information - please fill out this form to begin the process.
When will I get my registration tag?
We will mail your tag and registration receipt within 10 business days from the day we receive your completed registration application and payment. Please allow an additional 3-5 business days to receive your tag or receipt in the mail. If we have not received correct payment or proper documentation you will be notified via mail and the processing of your registration will be delayed.
What benefits come with my tag?
Your pet’s registration may be his or her ticket home! City of Allen registration tags are embedded with a QR-code to help the finder of a lost pet quickly connect with the owner, without the pet having to make a stop at the animal shelter!
Your City of Allen tag is valid as a city registration tag when you receive it, and no further action is required. However, your registration tag comes with an important FREE benefit! The modern and durable tag, produced by PetHub, may be linked to PetHub’s FREE online pet profile, where pet owners can update existing contact information and enter additional phone numbers, email addresses, family and veterinary contacts and more. The service also includes access to PetHub’s 24/7 call center.

How do I get a replacement tag?
You may obtain a replacement tag by sending a check or money order payable to “Allen Animal Shelter" in the amount of $2.00 to the mailing address below. Please do not send cash. You may include either a copy of your prior registration receipt or a note to designate the pet for which you are purchasing a replacement tag. Only one registration tag can be active at one time. Requests for multiple tags for the same animal cannot be fulfilled.
Can I transfer a registration?
Registrations may not be transferred from one owner to another owner or from one pet to another pet. A new registration must be purchased. Click here to view your registration options.
Can I obtain a refund?
A refund may be available for the following reasons:
- If a duplicate payment was made for the same pet and the same registration term. Be sure to include the pet’s current registration tag number if it is available, and as much information as possible regarding your payments.
- If a previously spayed or neutered pet was registered at the unaltered rate. Be sure to include proof of alteration dated prior to the registration date.
- If the pet owner lived outside the city limits of Allen at the time of registration.
Refunds are not available for unused time or if the animal is altered during the registration period and you paid at the higher rate.

How long is this registration valid?
Registrations are valid for 1, 2 or 3 years from the date of vaccination, as long as the rabies vaccination is valid for the same period of time. Registrations will not be valid beyond the expiration of the rabies vaccination.

I have found a pet: what should I do?
If the pet that you have found is wearing an Allen registration tag, please call our office at 214-710-3472 for assistance. If the tag has a City of Allen logo and a QR code on the opposite side, you can also scan the QR code with a smart phone and obtain additional information if the tag is registered.
If the pet is not wearing a City of Allen registration tag, you can fill out the form below and return it to the Allen Animal Shelter or call the Allen Animal Shelter at 214-509-4378.

I have lost a pet: what should I do?
If an Animal Control Officer finds your pet and your pet is wearing a current registration tag on its collar, then an Animal Control officer will attempt to contact you. If another citizen finds your pet with its registration tag on, they may call the shelter phone number on the tag and we will attempt to contact you so your pet may be reunited with you.
If the pet has been lost, Animal Control recommends that you visit the shelter to look for your pet in person. Sheltering of strays for the City of Allen is provided by the Allen Animal Shelter. You should also contact other surrounding area shelters such as Collin County Animal Shelter at 972-547-7292 for pets found in Lucas, Fairview and Parker, the Plano Animal Shelter at 972-769-4360, or Murphy Animal Shelter at 972-468-4226 who provides Animal Control Services for the Town of Parker.

Why should I register?
Registering helps Animal Control identify family pets, should an animal become lost. The fees from registering are used to care for animals and investigate complaints about stray animals, among other services. Other goals of animal registrations are to promote responsible pet ownership and to reduce the tragedies associated with lost pets and pet overpopulation.
What are the registration requirements?
Licensing Ordinance
All dogs, cats and ferrets 4 months of age and older must be registered with the City of Allen within 30 days of being in the city.

Due Date
Payment for your registration is due within 30 days of the expiration of your current registration. If you are registering for the first time, you must purchase a registration within 30 days of obtaining a pet over the age of 4 months or within 30 days of moving into the City of Allen.
License Term

Why was registration privatized?
The City of Allen chose to privatize animal registration beginning in 2019 to promote animal registration, to increase the cost-effectiveness of the program, and to provide additional services to its citizens.
